About Me

“If A Story Is In You, It Has Got To Come Out.”

-William Faulkner

Hi! My name is Taylor Clarke and I am a 22-year-old college student from Long Island. What people may not know about me, is that in 2015 I unexpectedly went into heart failure. This came as a complete shock for my friends and family because I had always been perfectly healthy. I was listed on the regional heart transplant waiting list and given a Left Ventricle Assist Device (LVAD) to keep my failing heart pumping.

I remained in the hospital while I waited, and in April of 2016 I received a second chance at life. A donor heart became available and I went into surgery. My new and healthy heart was transplanted on April 20, 2016- and thus began my new life!

Since my surgery I have returned back to school to pursue a degree in journalism and to work to tell the stories of others. I devote my free time to volunteering to spread the word about organ donation and the dire need for registered donors throughout the United States and particularly in New York.

I am grateful everyday to be alive and to wake up and see a new day. I thank my donor and my medical team every day, and carry them with me in whatever I do.

Thank you for reading my words. Thank you for listening to my stories.
